Perth Cup Wrap Up
Monday 14 April
Greyhounds WA held their premium meeting of the year at Cannington on Saturday night with the two feature races of the year; the group one SKY Channel Perth Cup (530m) and group one SKY Channel Galaxy (715m), Australia’s richest staying race.
Queensland chaser Size Can Matter took out the $125,000-to-the-winner Perth Cup with an all-the-way triumph. The Reg Kay–trained greyhound stormed out of box 4 to take the lead into the first turn before holding out Back Tonight and Mandagery Man to win in 30.22.

In the Galaxy (715m) the Keith Harding-trained Elektra launched a trademark come-from-behind burst to snatch victory in 41.48. Gunnadoo Magic ran second and pre-race favourite Chinatown Lad finished third.

The official attendance on the night was 4760.
Southern River
Greyhounds WA has become a signatory to the Lease of the Southern River Straight Track. The facility will be available to owners and trainers from Monday 17 March 2008.
Operating times are strictly Monday to Friday 6am to 11am. Weekends 6am to 9am
Use of the facility is FREE, however Greyhounds WA ask that all users are mindful of their obligations to keep the track and surrounds clean and tidy. Any failure to do so, abuse of any kind, or use of the facility outside designated times will see the offenders denied access.
Barry McPherson has kindly offered his services to maintain the track on a voluntary basis and Barry will also maintain the key register. Greyhounds WA is very pleased to regain this valuable training facility and ask the industry’s co-operation to ensure its on-going viability and success. I thank everyone for their patience in this matter.

Greyhounds GO GREEN during February
31 January 2008
Greyhounds WA and Carbon Neutral have joined forces to launch the ‘Six for Six: Greyhounds Go Green’ promotion in February. Throughout February Greyhounds WA will commit to planting 6 trees every time a dog wearing the green No. 6 vest wins a race at any of the 21 meetings held during the month. Furthermore 2 trees will be planted every time no.6 runs second and 1 tree every time no.6 runs third. It is hoped that the campaign will not only provide funds for Carbon Neutral but also raise awareness of global warming amongst the racegoing public.
Regular updates on the number of trees ‘raised’ during the promotion will be available from the Latest News section on www.greyhoundswa.com.au. Patrons will also have the opportunity to support this worthy cause by making their own contributions to the Carbon Neutral donation tins located at the entry gates on Saturday night race meetings at Cannington. Britton tops Trainers Table
January 4, 2007
2007 was a year to remember for WA’s top trainer Linda Britton after she claimed her ninth Cannington Trainer’s title. Britton finished well clear of her nearest rival, John Iwanyk, with 173 winners. She also took out her third Mandurah title after a close battle with Andrew McLaren. In total Britton trained 328 winners in WA last year and collected well in excess of $1million in stakes. Key moments during the season included taking out the Group 3 “Schweppes” twice, with Buttsie Bale and Billion Boy, and unearthing a couple of potential superstars in Eye Murunna and Rapala Boy.
RWWA has announced three contenders for the Greyhound of the Year Award: Back Tonight, Kalden Fury and Kostic Burns. The winner will be announced on March 9.
